ABOUT RETROPOLIS

Our Story.

Retropolis was born when some friends decided it would be a fun idea to mix Games and Music with a party kind of feel. After attending a function at community hall in Archway I decided it was the place for Retropolis. We borrowed a rented a PA, Drum kit, hauled this plus all my screens and consoles in a van down to this cold hall and luckily we brought uber amounts of extension leads as this place had 3 plugs in total. i needed about 30. We did 2 more events at this location and while fun we were making a loss every time. venue £250, Van £80, PA, £40. It seemed like the end for Retropolois before it began. but no!

A core member of the team identified his shared work space as a venue we could use for FREE. it was nearer to me and it had more plugs then even i could have hoped for. It seemed perfect and compared to the cold hall it was infinitely superier. However. the place was too clinical, it had no character, it felt like we were in an office and i wanted to feel like i was in my living room. parking was shite, no private garden and i still had to take a van load of stuff down.

And then, quite randomly while wandering a field in Kent, on an inebriated sunny afternoon, i met Simon. unbenost to me he owned a rather unique venue round the corner from my house called The Others. It turns out hes only been running the venue for over 20 years and its the best kept secret in north London.

The Others charged me £150 for a room with a full back line inc drums, amazing PA, private garden, table football, a record shop and fully licenced bar

Retropolis had found its true home.

To run our events it takes time, effort and unfortunately money.

Staff, hire, transportation, equipment, maintenance and rehearsal for the band
